Center console reinforcement 900 1993

I finally bit the bullet and bought a real stereo for the shiny 940 wagon and it should be here Wednesday. So time to prep for the install since it is nice and warm!

Pulled the radio using the leftover DIN pull tools from my 240. Found a mess of a crappy install. The sleeve was not attached to anything and just wedged in there with paper. The wires were hacked up instead of using a harness adapter...you get the picture.

Decided to pull the pocket as well as the radio receiver to get better access and because the pocket was wobbly making the ashtray mount shaky, etc. The reason was the sides of the center console where the pocket SHOULD knock up against is all buggered up. Anyone reinforced this obvious weak point with either a small piece of strapping or angle? Maybe epoxy thin plastic to the remains of the console sides?

FYI, I will be posting pic's of my tailgate "anti-rattle kit didn't work" fix. Still need to do the bottom first but it was incredibly simple.

Unrelated question, anyone fit one of the slim powered subs under the passenger seat of one of these cars. Have the parking brake console out too for the wiring of the USB ports and lighter socket to the storage bin. Figured I would pre-wire for the amp/sub while I have everything apart but not sure if I can fit anything under the seat or if I heading to behind the rear wheel well.
