sluggish turbo - common causes 700 1992

Greetings,
Started to troubleshoot sluggish turbo performance on my 92 740 where it just does not have the ummppff I remember in the past and the boost gauge needle will barely touch the red no matter how much you floor it.

First step: Spend some quality time with the "good book" - that is the brickboard archives and FAQ.

Seems very likely there is a leak in the plumbing on the intake side even though I have examined all that pretty carefully. My next step is to construct up a pressure test device like described in the FAQ to see if I can find the leak.

The next thing that seems common for sluggishness is the O2 sensor (although that would not explain the boost gauge) but I can and will test that this weekend as well.

Would anybody like to give their opinion on the tree I am barking up here?

Second step: Get a reality check live from the brickboard crew.

Thanks in advance
Robb
