Side Window Guide Channel Replacement - Done! 1800

Thanks Derek.

The service manual you suggested was helpful to some extent - but the rest was by "feel". Anyways, managed to pull the window channel parts out, and replace the felt/rubber guides and re-install and everything works. I am now pretty familiar with the inner workings of the door.

I also noticed the rust inside the doors at the bottom where the water leaked in through the outside rubber seal than runs along the trim. It collected at the bottom and although there are drain holes, the constant moisture lead to rust. Fortunately it wasn't bad, so I cleaned out the rust and treated with POR-15.

I also noticed that there was rust on the inside of the door where the door handles attach. I guess water leaked in through the attachment points, so I am cleaning and treating the rust there as well.

Question: There is a black gasket used between the door handle attachment points and the body. Most of it has disintegrated. Any suggestions as to what to use as a replacement? I'm thinking roofing tar paper? Or just use putty?

Anyways thanks for you help.

waggin.
