544 Shifter 444-544

Good morning, we mad the maiden voyage yesterday, car ran well even without the windshield. One thing I noticed is that the gear shifter seems to be far to the left. For example when I put the car in reverse, the shift knob is under the steering column. I've not driven a 544 before, so I dont know if this is normal (it seemed odd compared to my old 444).

The car has the stock transmission and shifter for a 65 544.

Is there some part of the transmission 'lid' where the shifter attaches that could be worn allowing the shifter to be too far to the left?

Regardless, I am thrilled that the car runs and drives. I could not have done it without all the wonderful minds on Brickboard.
Cheers
Mike
