drive train vibration troubles 200 1989

Brickboard,

My 89 240 sedan has developed a bad vibration in the drive train at around 30 or 40 MPH. I finally had a chance to get under it today. I jacked the back end up and put it in neutral. I could turn the shaft and saw nothing terrible. But I did notice that I had a little play in the rear U joint. And I also noticed a small amount of play where the front yoke goes into the automatic transmission.

The center bearing seemed OK although I could move the shaft in its rubber mount almost an inch if I pushed on it.

When I get a chance to clear out my driveway, I will jack it up, put it in gear and see if I can see where the problem is.

I'll be thankful for any advice you may have.

Thank,

Twooldvolvos
