940 non-turbo regina - RSR failure - jury still out on bypass? 900

hello all. I solved a "no hot soak start" problem about 9 months ago. Yesterday evening this replacement rsr failed. Because I had been on a long trip a few months ago, I had a new spare in my emergency kit in the brick. I swapped out the rsr and I'm back on the road with no problems.
Lucid has suggested the rsr bypass at times but I still don't know if its a safe and logical permanent solution.

1. Whats the verdict on the permanent bypass ? long term effects of it on the battery and/or injectors?
2. Any ideas why a new rsr would only last 9 months ? heat ? vibration ? too much voltage?

thanks
