Bypass bulf failure relay 200

Since my daughter's 745 had the engine fire (long story), I've now procured a 1988 245. It was a one-owner in substantially intact condition. It has 2 or 3 hundred thousand or so on it. (Odo stopped at 165 about 5 or 6 years ago.) Hasn't been meticulously maintained. Needs a rear main seal, the tranny leaks, and most importantly, my wife HATES the color. (Sand exteriour with what remains of brown leather interior)

The point is, I'm not emotionally attached to the car, and not likely to become so. That being said:

I think someone has hacked with the tail/brake lights, and as of now, the brake lights are always on, (both sides) as is the bulb failure light. I've printed out a wiring diagram and my intention is to simply bypass the bulb failure relay altogether, at least for the brake lights. I'll commandeer one of the existing brake light wires under the dash, and hook it straight to the brake light switch, adding a fuse if necessary. Then at the back, attach it to both brake lights, and run them both off that single wire. Then cut the power to the bulb failure light altogether.

I'm looking for input as to whether this is a good or bad idea.
