lead fuel additive in older volvo engine valve adjust 140-160

Just had my valves adjusted again cuz it had a soft missfire (twice within 3 K miles). Granted I was really pushing my wagon with heavy loads, but still. My old time mechanic tells me to add lead additive to fuel to prevent this from happening again. This was suprising to me, I guess I figured this 1972 B20 had a valve job before which would automatically get hardened seats etc... right? but apparently not. I've read the past posts on this, interesting there seems to be some debate that lead additive helps or im just throwing money out the window. I tend to think it's a valve train issue, weak springs maybe, cuz you would constantly hear about this problem if it were that pervasive. Im saving for a valve job, cuz $5 a tank for additive sucks, better to put that money to best use (new hardened valve job).

any suggestions for bigger or better valves, head work etc... for stock FI to weber 32/36 carb conversion 72 B20? don't want to do any other power upgrades at this time, just figured a mild head valve rework might be good since it will be at machine shop.
