A few questions about a 93' 940 I just bought.. 900 1993

I just picked up a 93' 940 wagon as a third car. This is my sixth volvo. I had a good buddy who was a Volvo mechanic, so he helped me maintain the other five, but I moved away so that's not an option.

The main issue is the tranny, the engine revs to about 4k, then shifts hard. There are no noises at all, just the hard shift. It has the AW71.

Any ideas?

There are some other issues, but I think I have a handle on them.
