R.I.P Posideon 700

Our "Blue/Green Metallic" 1990 745GL was totaled a few days ago. She was a nice, damn nice, car. The total loss is based on cost to repair, not actual damage, she was repairable and the frame was not bent. But the insurance company said my choices were to either let it be a total loss, or keep the car and get no payment from them.

Posideon (to me she is female) was a damn good car, she ran very reliably, always. The only things she ever needed were replacement of the in-tank fuel pump, which was her only fuel pump because she was a Rex/Regina car, and a replacement of the power brake booster. She barely used any oil, about one half of a quart per 3000 to 4000 miles. And she kept the oil clean and transparent for the first 1000 miles. Dear God, I'm gonna miss that car.

Posideon looked like new, drove like new and even almost smelled like new when I bought her about three years ago. She was in immaculate condition. Still was when she got in the accident that was to be her undoing.

When compared to the little Kia Optima rental that we have, which was brand new when we got it, Posideon was much nicer to drive, she was stable and stayed where you would aim her. The new Kia does not. The Kia has no looseness in the steering system, but it won't stay pointed down the road. You have to make literally constant little corrections to keep it going straight. Amazing, isn't it that a 23 year old car with over 203,000 miles on it is much more stable and enjoyable to drive than a brand new car.

Rest In Peace Posideon, you are sorely missed, and you were a wonderful car.
