Charging Problem 200 1992

Yes I believe there is a way to check the ground connection with a voltmeter. It is best for it to be a digital one.

What you do is to put the leads of the voltmeter in parallel with a ground wire. From the battery to the ground point or the alternator in this case.
If it is a solid circuit the volt reading will be zero. It can be only up to 0.02 or 0.2 volts and it still be good as I remember. If it starts getting greater than that then there is a resistance in the ground wire or connection. A little voltage change is a lot of resistance to current flow.

I read about this in the Auto Restore magazine and there maybe more details in the article. It was dealing with starters and charging circuits at the same time. I am not home to refresh my memory with the article just know it works. I do not remember if you have to have the car running, starting or if anything to complete a circuit to the battery.

Darn memory just not work unless I use the idea regularly.

There may be someone like Art, that knows more details about it out there.
