Stuffed Engine 900

1995 960, 120,000 mi. At 60 miles/hr the idler pulley on the timing belt came apart. Recently purchased the car, sticker said new belt at 70,000 mi. Evidently they didn't replace the pulley as well. I would think a new pulley would be good for at least 60,000 miles. My question, is it worth putting a new belt and pulley on and trying the engine to see if it will go? I realize from reading other posts that a stuffed engine usually requires removal and repair of cylinder head. What are the chances that no damage occurred?
Also, who can recommend a good manual for this 960?
Thanks a lot.
Emmett
