Rain on Distributor Cap 700

My wife left the wagon out in several days of rain deluge. The next day it would die, exhibiting signs of moisture in the distributor. (wires are relatively new).

The seal on the hood certainly needs attention but does the distibutor automatically need replacing as well? Will a new/good distributor exhibit problems if the hood seal lets moisture in?
