tilted PS pulley 700 1992

Got the tilted PS pulley from the worn PS bracket mentioned in the FAQ's. The belt noise is frightening! Anyway, the choices for the part are PnP and dealer it seems but I am wondering... Has anybody ever tried shimming out those front 2 bolts on the bracket with some thick washers in order to force the pulley back into plane with the crank? It seems like it should work. I need to pull the pan and get a better look from below mind you. I do hate those PnP jobs that require laying on the ground.
Thanks in advance
