light rear-end knocking sound 200 1989

Your first description of teh clunk had me thinking as Scorron.. Torque rod bushings make clunk sounds at low sppeds while accelerating or going over speed bumps slowly. But then you describe a conatant knock related to speed... Yes, check for a dry Rear 'U' jopint. These 'U' joints do not have a zerk fitting in them. The OEM ones do have a small screw that can come out and be filled with grease via a Grease gun with small needle attachment added. It may be too late for a simple greasing. The 'U' joint by the Axle is usually the culprit.

Just take the hardware out and let the Driveshaft hang and check for 'too tight'. If you deside to swap out the 'U' joint... write back.
You need to keep the front shaft and rear shaft Keyed properly or you may introduce more Vibartion issues
