How to repair 780 front seat leather splits? 700

Hi all,
The 780 Bertone is a wonderful car, but the seat leather they used, combined with the stitching and seam placement usually results in seats that split at the side where you enter the car, and along other seams in the seat bottom.

They're really comfortable, so I don't want to replace them, but I'm curious how other 780 owners have dealt with this.

I see that some people have taken them to have them completely recovered, but that's not in the financial cards for me right now. Any suggestions on how to repair the seams when they split?

Or have most people just gone to sheepskins or seat covers?
