Removing Fuel Tank 200 1986

I'm removing my fuel tank to clean out the rust and varnish and reseal (the car sat for 5-6 years). I've followed the Bentley instructions, and have loosened the screw on the clamp on the filler tube, but I can't seem to get them to separate. Other postings I have read have suggested removing the whole thing, including the filler pipe. My question is, does the flange where the fuel cap is unscrew from the pipe? It looks like it does in the Bentley manual, but I'm not sure. If it does, what is the best tool to use to remove it? Will everything just slide out, then?

Thanks.

Dean
