Steering shaft a bit loose 700

1992 740 Wagon 232K --
Although generally working fine, there is a slight clunking in the steering system. To investigate, I jacked up & supported the front of the car. From beneath the car I grabbed the middle of the steering shaft and was able to rotate it a couple of degrees or so. The upper and lower U-bolts don't seem to be the source of the looseness. It seems to me that something needs tightening further up toward the steering wheel. Haven't come across any posts on this and the FAQs don't provide much detail. Has anyone experienced/fixed this?

Thanks,

Rob
