A/C Orifice Tube or Expansion Valve?? 700

1989 740

I'm getting ready to install a new compressor, receiver/drier (accumulator tank), all new O-Rings, and convert to R-134 and a shop owner friend who has done A/C work (but has never done a Volvo 740) told me that in addition to the expansion valve (located in the firewall evaporator fitting) that I should change the ORIFICE TUBE, which is often located near the condensor.

I went to RockAuto.com parts and have separate listings for the Expansion Valve (see: http://screencast.com/t/pYLhfcMX4ks ) and the Orifice Tube
(see: http://screencast.com/t/RA2HkPi0 ) and the parts look different, making me think maybe there IS an Orifice Tube" beside the Expansion Valve?

I want to make sure that I replace any components w/ screens in them just in case there's any "crap" in the lines, of course, though the old compressor didn't self-destruct or anything.

I understand that the BEST expansion valve for really hot weather (Phoenix) is the 4 Seasons 38904. Everyone agree?

Thanks,
Bob
