Resetting yellow "SERVICE 200 1989

I know, I know, this has been asked many times before--and believe me I searched the archives--but for the record...do you PULL DOWN on the black lever or PUSH UP to reset the SERVICE light?

I've reset it before without any problems, but I don't do it often enough that I can just go through the motions without thinking. I never can remember if you pull the lever down or push it up, or if it alternates with each resetting. I pushed the lever up and felt it give way and thought I had reset the light. The SERVICE light still stays on for a minute or two before turning off. Thought I had reset it.

I looked up the archives and there is a post with this question for an '89 and the response was to PULL on the lever. "Pull" suggests that the lever pulls down. So yesterday I tackled it again, but there seems to be no room for the lever to go down. I didn't want to break it so I gently applied force downward but I don't think it can pull down. So I pushed it up again. I haven't started the car since, as it's parked.

So what is it? Pull down or push up on the black lever?
