how to reassemble the steering column correctly? 120-130

I've been having trouble with the steering column in my '68. PO had fitted an aftermarket (Luisi) steering wheel, which never seemed to be right - the steering column constantly made weird scraping noises. Finally decided to tear it down and figure out what's going on. Unfortunately, what I found in there bears little resemblance to the diagram in the parts catalog. There were a couple of steel spacers (just thick washers, really), two springs instead of one, three (yes, three not two or four) spring seats, and three thin washers (the parts catalog shows only one).

I imagine it's possible that the parts catalog failed to show all the changes made when Volvo introduced the collapsible column in '68. But can anyone tell me what the correct sequence of parts should be in the column? I'm guessing there should be a spring on either side of the mounting bracket. I can't figure out where the spacers are supposed to go, or if they're supposed to be there at all. Anyone have any expertise to share?
