M-47 5-Speed Sounds 200

Hi All,

A question about sounds coming from an M-47 5-speed transmission...

What sounds should I be listening for that indicate any part failure?

My tranny seems to be working fine but I do hear slight low pitched whining at slow speeds (probably there at higher speed too but other sounds drown it out). Could this be a part failure tell? Or just normalish sound for a tranny with some miles on it.

Car in question: 1991 245 with about 200k. Running on synthetic fluid (overfilled).

I want to make a cross country drive of about 4k miles this September. What should I be checking to be sure to get at least that many more miles safely?

Thanks,
Bert
