gas smell / 1983 GLT 200 1983

Am in the process of chasing down a gas smell in my 1983 GLT / B21ft / w 156K miles. The smell appears to be located near the top of the gas tank. Got under the car over the weekend and checked for visual leaks and gas smell near the main fuel pump and accumulator and found none. Everything on the fill side of the gas tank appears tight, There is a definite gas smell near the opening to the tank fuel pump. I will start there with a new gasket.

Any help would be appreciated.
