Returned from a seven year reserve mobilization, followed by a year of unemployment , and trying to get my 1988 765 running again.
I finally found gainful employment, which requires I provide my own reliable transportation, and long extended stays away from home. Almost like being deployed again.
If the car was not rust free, and only had 150,000 miles on it, I had gone through this car top to bottom, and I had invested in a lot of upgrades from IPD/FCP Groton/etc. before I deployed , I would not be chasing it, but I really think car this is worth saving.
I had it towed to the only local independent I would trust to touch this car besides myself, who changed the oil, dropped the fuel tank & cleaned it out, replaced both fuel pumps, and (at my request) is wiring in a relay to get the fuel pump amperage out of the fuse box.
He has it running and advises to take it out and drive it as much as possible, which is not an issue for me considering my current work site is 400 miles from my house. Just waiting on me to get back home and pay for it, and get it inspected and registered.
The motor has had a steady diet of full synthetic oil since I got the car 10 years ago, and I will continue that.
Air-conditioning system has been converted and a variable orifice valve installed, so hopefully it just needs to be topped off, if even that.
Any advice regarding seafoam versus chemtool versus gumout regain?
Any thoughts on dropping the transmission pan and refilling it with mobile one synthetic automatic transmission fluid?
I was thinking to perhaps flush the brake fluid and replace it with Motul DOT 5.1?
All suggestions, advice, cautions and caveats are appreciated.
