280k miles, but it's "ready for 500k more."

Unfortunately, the way we praise the redblock and 240s in general has contributed to this idiocy. Volvo's legacy has likely killed more 240s than accidents. It sounds like this car has not had any maintenance in years because the owner believes it can never fail, and one day it will run out of oil or dump the coolant and die.

The reason old Volvos last forever is (at least in part) because of people like us. As we all know, they will not last forever unless you take care of them.
