Under most driving circumstances the gauge will read pretty much in the middle. The gauge is mechanical (the capillary tube type) and it is very sensitive. You can see when started cold the temp will rise and then drop down as the thermostat opens--will rise again if idling in traffic--will rise if under heavy load, etc. -- Dave
