Engine dies when bright lights selected- 700

I am just finishing up getting my '89 740 (off the road for a long period of time) road-worthy, and everything was working PERFECTLY.

Took the car to State Inspection, and the guy said the right side headlights didn't work at ALL, and if the High Beams were selected, the engine would die until the headlights were turned off, and the car was re-started. Beside, the blue light high-beam indicator in the dash wouldn't illuminate, he told me.

I figured it was probably a bad ground (or a short-to-ground in the headlamp circuit) but couldn't fix it at the inspection station, so drove home.

At home, I again turned the headlights on, and ALL worked, and when I selected High Beams, they, and the blue indicator, worked perfectly. The problem was GONE (which makes it harder to troubleshoot and fix, of course).

If it had been a SHORT to ground in a hot wire, I'm sure the headlight fuse would have blown, so I am left with a poor connection (possible a ground connection) somewhere as the most probable situation (as the headlights were turned on, the potential of the ground strip rose above zero, taking away voltage to the fuel injection system, or the ignition circuit).

If it were a bad ignition switch, I'd think BOTH sides of the headlights would have been involved.

I plan to re-tighten all grounding buses and wiggle all the spade connectors on them to see if the problem re-presents, but I thought I'd ask here if anyone has had this particular symptom before?

Anyone with suggestions??

Thanks-
Bob
