My heart sank as I read the news on George's passing, and may the Lord bless his departed soul.
George was my pushrod Volvo guru. After the passing of my father, I inherited his 1974 144, and as you can see in my picture, is in showroom condition thanks to him. His priceless guidance and generous supply of parts restored the car to its original glory and more.
I was fortunate enough to meet him during my days in Oklahoma City. I noticed his signature said Bartlesville, Oklahoma, I dropped him a line, and visited him a couple of times over the weekend. If he was in Oklahoma City, we'd meet up again, and would chat for hours over lunch or dinner, mainly on where I came from, his days in Panama, and so on. We share a common bond in that he had his dear 164 since it was almost new, while my 144 is still in service 40 years after my father drove it home from the showroom. Most of our conversation centered around our beloved Volvos of course.
I still remembered my last visit to his house before I left the USA. Over a warm cup of coffee, George prayed for me to have a safe journey home, and for a great life ahead. That was in 2005. Over the years, we kept in touch thru e mails, and my last correspondence with him was a few weeks back, when my car had some electrical problems, of course cured with a simple instruction from him.
May his departed soul rest in peace.
