On my old '84, it was a standard 1/4 inch spade size that you could get in any store (Radio Shack, etc.).
On my '93s, it's a round (cylindrical) connector that I've never seen in any electronic parts store.

Your '87 fits in between -- I don't know when the change happened -- so you have to look at the connector (either what was on the wire, or the connector on the sender).
