I had some extra-foral communications with George, so in addition to the highly experienced and knowledgeable individual that we all knew he was from his public postings, I additionally found him to be a considerate and gracious friend in our personal contacts. I too regret not having a reason now to visit Bartlesville, OK.

I may have a lot of experience on vintage Volvos, but as a peer whom I respected greatly, I for one felt pretty good and somewhat relieved when he would chime in and agree with my take on an issue. A couple of times I also appreciated him straightening my not-quite-correct ass out…one should never stop learning and considering the hard learned knowledge of experience! With the passing of George Downs, this community has lost a great resource, and my sincerest sympathies go out to his family. Thank you, George, and may you Rest In Peace in that rust-free place!
