So yesterday I took my trusty friend for a couple hundred mile round trip including hi-way and side roads. Spent about seven hours meandering through stop and go traffic as well as moments of 70-75 when the hi-way opened up.
As I neared home on the return trip I noticed a definite change in the brake pedal's travel. What normally is a solid pedal had become soft and would travel almost to the floor. The car stopped with no noticeable changes, but the pedal failed to provide the normal volvo level of confidence.
Once home, I checked the fluid and it was exactly where it always is. Pumping the brakes failed to make any difference. It was dark, so I left the rest of the trouble shooting till this morning.
Fast forward, I went to the car this morning fully planning to have to replace the master cylinder. Its the original and has never had any work done. Over the years I've changed the pads and the rotors may have been turned once, but that's it.
This morning when applying the brake- its back to normal. Plenty of resistance with no shimmy or vibration.
What gives? Should I just flush the system and replace the fluid? The pads were all changed about 5k miles ago, but I suppose it could be those as well.
Scratching my head on this one.
