Failing AMM? 200 1983

Driving home from work on Thurs.(235 mile trip)92 degrees out, my car starts intermittenly stalls and starts right back up. never had to pullover. It does it several times during the trip. Drives great otherwise, fuel mileage dropped by 5 mpg. hwy. next morning wont start. Run through series of test. =
no spark from coil-replaced coil, now intermittent spark. for the heck of it i replaced 25 amp fuse. (checked it earlier, cleaned it and looked good. )
Today Sat. (71 degrees)still no start, disconnect AMM starts. Plug AMM in starts again and seems to run fine. Small surge, not much on tach.
Is my AMM failing or coincidence? did i have vapor lock or is it something happening?

Thanks
