1995 960 power steering squeal 900

Hi all,

This is a 1995 960 wagon.

I am hearing a squealing sound coming from my steering when I am in a parking lot turning the wheel while driving slowly...with the windows down. It sounds like a belt is slipping but I am wondering how that could be with the automatic tensioner? The belt is in perfect shape. Power steering fluid is exactly where it should be. I am thinking either the tensioner is losing some of its tension or something is up with the power steering pump. I can move the tensioner by hand from right to left, facing the front of the car. Is that normal? Is there a litmus test for the tensioner that I can perform?

I am also thinking that the more squealing I hear, the more unusual wear on my belt which I really do not want to be without when I am out and about.

Thanks very much,
Jim Lee
