1993 940 SRS Code 2-1-2 Steering Wheel Module, Break in wiring 900 1993

Dear jd620,

Hope you're well. You should probably have the Volvo Tech Manual for the SRS system (TP32231/1). It might be available at www.volvotechinfo.com

To remove the steering wheel airbag, You'll need a long T-30 bit: there are two screws, that can be accessed when the steering wheel is at "full lock".

When those screws are removed, the airbag comes out. The "deploy signal" arrives at the airbag via a "clockspring" device, mounted beneath the steering wheel. As the steering wheel turns, the "clockspring" allows contact to be maintained.

The first thing to do is to see if there's obvious damage to the bright orange wire from the clockspring to the airbag. If so, please report, and we'll go from there.

BTW, I've removed the entire airbag system from a 940, including all cables.

Please be 100% sure that you've disconnected the negative battery cable clamp from the negative battery terminal, before doing ANY work on the SRS system. An airbag deployment - at close quarters - can be lethal.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
