electrical faults: right turn signal does not work while braking- instrument panel lights are out 700 1990

1. I recently purchased a nice 1990 740 wagon, with some electrical problems. if the right hand turn signal is on, and you step on the brake, the turn signal goes off, and as soon as you take your foot off the brake, it comes back on. known issue: it is missing the center brake light on the tailgate, and those wires are loose, disconnected. 2. at night, the instrument panel does not light up. all the warning lights work, just not the panel lights. the shifter light is out, too. known issue #2: the main overhead courtesy light is out, but the two front ones work. upon looking at it, I discovered that the light brown wire has a short in it. I was trying to replace the bulb / whole unit with another courtesy light, and every time I connected the brown wire, it sparked and burned out fuse #5. I disconnected it and covered the end of the wire with tape for now. also, the right turn signal light is faintly illuminated, and stays solid on, at night (and maybe all the time), when not using the turn signal. all help appreciated. last thing: the check engine light was on- i checked the fault codes- there were none. I cleared it last night, and then it came back on- it seems to have gone off now that I disconnected that courtesy lamp brown wire. thank you!
