Air lock in cooling system? 700 1990

300K+ Changing out a rotted radiator with a good used one I had.

Trying to replace coolant in a friend's 740 wagon and the radiator will fill but it appears that the block is not filling (based on the amount of liquid remaining in the catch pan). It took forever to drain out.

Normally I would remove the thermostat but am afraid to put a wrench to the the nuts on the housing- I doubt they have been touched in 20 years.

Any suggestions on getting coolant to flow past the thermostat? I am guessing it is not the correct one and does not have the normally incorporated bleed valve.

Thanks, Randy
