I am the guy who tells all the newbies to replace their radiator if thy have an automatic 2/7/9 with an original radiator to avoid the heartache of loosing a transmission to save a good $150. I do not always practice what I preach...and I got lucky this time.

Our roommate was using my shiny 940 wagon to pick up some stuff from storage to move it into his new house. He calls me from the storage unit that the radiator was blowing steam but the temp never rose on the temp gauge. I have a cracked radiator and in the 22 miles the car had driven since my last fill-up, I had lost a gallon of coolant.

This crack is a different place than I am used to...not hear either of the hose necks. It is on the drivers side, in front, dead middle of the tank.

Weirdly, in the 12 mile drive home, it did not loose a drop of coolant.

I have new Volvo hoses (including heater hoses), a heater control valve and a Nissen's on the way. I slightly overpaid for the radiator and had to pay shipping plus I have to set aside chunk of my time on a VERY busy weekend...all because I did not take care of this preemptively at my leisure. If it were my only car, I would be sweating every drive to work or back. When those cracks open up...it is not pretty.

If it is original, replace your radiator.
