The saving grace is that the clutch fan is SUPPOSED to freewheel if jammed against something but the belts are a different story. Direct drive fans are really deadly as my brother found out with a local cat now deceased and his chev van. It was an ugly cleanup job.

If you like the cat try to discourage it from sleeping there (behaviour changes are sometimes a long process) or pound on the hood prior to starting.
