Hi folks,
Just to have a good reference, what kind of fuel mileage would you expect with a regular 240 DL (sedan) from 1984 in the city?
When I say city, I mean Tucson, not NYC. There are often long stretches at relatively high speed. I do take some faster roads, but I don't usually go on the highway.
I am getting about 19.5mpg with mine. Consistently, my other vehicles have gone higher than their rated city mileage, a bit more like a mixed rating. My Toyota pickup truck is rated for 13 and does 15 here. My Nissan Pathfinder was rated for 15mpg city, and did 17 here.
I'm trying to get the Volvo setup as best as can be. It runs fine and smoothly otherwise but I want to find out if my mileage is as expected in these conditions and I should leave it alone or if there is room for improvement. For info, it's been tuned, plugs are recent, wires were just replaced (Bougicord) and I got an improvement in response, new air filter, new 3-wire O2 sensor. New corrugated hose between AMM and throttle body. Checked vacuum hoses. Recently replaced flame trap and small hose to manifold (it was split). I did not replace the coolant temp sensor and cannot remember if I did this one years ago or not.
I often have a fuel smell when I stop the car. I'm not sure what that is. I'v checked the hoses to the canister and they seem fine but I need to do a more thorough check.
So at this point, just looking for experiences to tell me if what I'm getting is normal or could be better.
Thanks!
