Gas Gauge not working 200 1990

Hi!
I recently acquired a 1990 Volvo 5 Speed Wagon.

The previous owner was a Volvo guy and has done quite a bit of work and maintenance. He also had a guy in his area who was the Volvo 'go to' guy. There is one thing that he had not fixed that I would like to get taken care of - and that is to fix the gas gauge. The odometer does work so I am using that to roughly calculate mileage and put in some gas.

This is what he wrote about it: "The gas gauge is almost certainly a sender issue, because I had the in-tank fuel pump replaced (which is integral to the sending unit) and then the gauge started acting up - so very likely that's the problem - very easy/inexpensive fix."

The Volvo 'go to' guy for my area here in Maine is about an hour away. I do have a mechanic who has worked on my cars for years - mostly VW's - but he works on others too. He does work on Volvos too. Is this something that needs to be done by a Volvo guy or can someone who works on Volvos fix it. It does not seem like a complicated fix.

Thanks

Sunny
