New twist on shiftlock problems--'92 240??? 200

I've read through all the various threads on shiftlock issues (many thanks to Art for diagrams and advice), realize that historical spilled beverages likely play a part, but still haven't found an answer.

Wife's car. Had experienced the occasional 240 problem of not being able to get it out of Park without using yellow override. Seemed like might have been aggravated by her habit of not using emergency brake when on nearly flat ground. Fuses fine. Situation improved by fully engaging emergency brake before putting in Park. Also short term improvement with WD40, which enabled mechanical components to move more freely. At it's worst, before lubrication, could not get out of Park even using yellow shiftlock lever. Also, for a while after the lube fix I could shift out of Park whether key was in ignition or not. We could have lived with that status but that didn't last.

Problem has returned, and yellow lever didn't help. Found that I could get it out of Park by using yellow lever AND directly pushing down on the left side curved plastic piece--the one that the shifter button is supposed to be able to depress. Clearly there is a mechanical hang up, either 1) something in the shaft between the button and base of shifter making it too difficult to depress plastic piece at base (unlikely) or 2) involving the black plastic piece and pin which solenoid disengages, either something broken and hanging up movement, or the pin partially sticking and not fully disengaging.

Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas?

Thanks.
