weird tie rod issue 200 1993

I need to replace the inner tie rod on the passenger side of a 93 volvo 240. I got what I thought was the correct inner tie rod from FCP and took it to my mechanic. He disassembled the tie rod, and told me that I had the wrong inner tie rod - mine took a female connector to the rack, and I had supplied a male.

I took a look at the FCP site and there are no female connectors for that year. It may be that the rack was replaced at some point, maybe with an earlier one. I found a female connector for a 1987, and ordered it (it was only $14) but have no idea if this is correct.

Has anyone experienced this or know anything about it? Any wierd variations of a 93 that isn't common knowledge? Suggestions?

thanks!

John
