Transmission Flush 700 1991

So i just realised when checking my transmission fluid that it was burnt, black kinda burnt, i stood there thinking to myself ive done so much work to this car ive completly forgotton in the 2 years since i revived it from death to change the transmission fluid, the reason i check it is when i go from OD into 4th for extra speed i slow down, otherwise it shifts hard and accelerates normally when in gears 1-4. So im going to flush it tomorrow somtime. What do you guys think about this? im really apprehensive about doing this with the seriously black fluid in there. also would the bad fluid cause the OD to 4th gear engagement to not accelerate rather slow or stay at same speed?
