Broken door latch, cannot open door to disassemble. 200

Need some advice- the driver's side rear door on my '93 240 will not open. I have run into this problem twice before on two separate cars. Each time I found that a spring in the door latch linkage breaks, which will not allow the door to be opened or closed. In the past, I was able to manipulate the linkage enough to get the door to open. However, this time the door is in the closed position and I cannot get it to open at all. The lock mechanism is working fine, but the latch will not release.

Any tips for solving this problem, either by use of a slim jim tool or by removing interior door panel from the inside? Don't really want to go to a locksmith or the dealer.

Thanks
-AR
