Susan's 940 Issues, Learning Curves, and Posting to Threads 900

Hi Susan,
Sorry to keep you waiting, but I had to do some research for this "partial" response. I don't mean to ignore any of your questions, but in the interest of time, jumped into the following as a start, and this response will "bump" your post back up to the top for a while.

[this may be jumpy for a bit as I come back to edit (2± hour window) my blunders, add afterthoughts, etc.]

Here goes...

4. I bought a multimeter so that I could test other things.
• I have a couple of meters, but find a simple 12 Volt test light easier to use, having been misled by the meter a time or two. The problem with the meter is it's sensitivity. A corroded circuit can sometimes still show 12V on a digital meter, but fail to make a 12V light bulb glow normally.

5. I checked socket 2 codes on the on-board diagnostic and got 132 and 223 codes. I cleared these codes because that's what the second part of the instructions said to do (or else that's how I read it). Now I get a 111 code. I did not do Diagnostic Test Mode 2 because I couldn't understand the language. I did not check socket 6, and maybe I should.
• Yes, check socket 6 (ignition). It's less comprehensive than socket 2 (fuel injection), but when you're there, why not?

6. I have a Chilton's manual for 200, 700, 900 cars (all in one) that I've had for years. I find it tough to follow it. I would like to get another manual that's easy to follow. I've been told how good Bentley books are, but I see that they're primarily for 200s.
• To my knowledge, there are no good aftermarket books on the 940s. I'd recommend two Volvo "green books" that are no longer in print (got mine in 2003). But there is a CD for $3.15 that covers all 799/900 models. Call 800-25VOLVO to order. But my choice would be eBay for used manuals. The two I use most are:
TP31903/1 (Fuel Sys. Regina, Ignition Sys. Rex-1) $29.15*
TP32208/ (Wiring diag, Fault Tracing, Repair & Maint.) $33.35*
* 2003 prices for Ebay comparison.
* Try googling those Volvo TP numbers too

7. I would like to find somewhere that has a picture of everything under the hood with little lines showing what is what. Any thoughts where I could find something like that?
• Yes, the Wiring Diagram book above has a lot of illustrations like that.
