Battery not charging 240 200

Hi, on my '89 240 wayon my battery isn't charging despite being 4 days old (the alternator not being much older).

The dash lights come on at key on and go off after engine start.

With the key on I am only getting 2V at the small red wire on the alternator.

I believe I should have battery voltage under those conditions.

Other than tracing down this red wire for a short, any ideas on what could cause this?

Edit: when I remove the small red wire from the alternator the red wire jumps from 2V to battery voltage.
