I have a 1959 Amazon as well. It is a Swedish import with the very early style trunk.
If the car is not complete, some parts are very hard to find. Like the front turn signals and the rear solid red taillights. On my model specifically, special trunk and latch available pre-21000 chassis number. Rear "Volvo" script. "Amazon" radio plate. My car does have a 1960 interior with better seats.
Pre-1960 cars do have the narrow tunnel. It is just wide enough for the M40 and not deep enough either for the M41. The rest of the car is almost the same. In my area, I was only able to find this early Amazon, so I bought it. It is special to me as a Swedish import and includes many special features and accessories not available on other Amazons. Because of this, I am never planning on selling it. I really like this car, but I would also like a later model for other reasons as well.
If the B16 is healthy then use it, otherwise I am building a performance B20 for almost the same price to rebuild a B16. I am installing front discs, and improving the suspension as well as converting to 12V.
The largest difference in a early vs late car is the front panel. Even in Sweden, this part is nearly impossible to replace. Mine is quite rusty, but my only solution is to get it fixed for $500+. Without it you lose the character of the early Amazons, so consider that in your purchase.
