This is related to my other recent post about an intermittent speedometer on a 1994 940 NA with Bosch LH2.4 fuel injection. The speedometer is still intermittent - sometimes works fine, other times not at all or only above 45 mph.
Since the speedometer problems began, the engine has stalled 3 times, The stall has only happened just as I stopped after coasting from 40-50 mph, in preparation for making a turn onto another road. The engine immediately restarted OK and ran fine after the stalls.
After the first stall the check engine light stayed on and there was a single OBD code 1-2-1 (AMM wiring fault). I checked and cleaned the AMM connector even though it looked OK, then cleared the OBD code.
Today the engine stalled for the third time under the same coasting to a stop condition. This time the Check Engine light was off and there were 2 OBD codes: 1-2-1 (AMM wiring) and 3-1-1 (Signal missing from speedometer). For 3-1-1 the symptoms listed for LH2.4 are "Idling problems".
Other than the stall issue that has now happened 3 times in 2 weeks (and only when the speedometer was intermittent), the car idles and runs normally. This makes me think the AMM is actually OK and the problem is something else.
Here is my question: With LH2.4 fuel injection, can a faulty speedometer affect the engine idle enough to stall the engine when coasting to a stop from 40-50 mph with foot off the accelerator ?
If the stall is speedometer related, maybe the problem can only happen with LH fuel injection. I previously owned a 1991 740 with Regina fuel injection. The speedometer totally failed on that car and it never had a stalling issue.
