544 rally car driver dies 120-130

For those of you who don't subscribe to "Classic and Sports Cars Newsletter" delivered free by email, this obit appeared in the latest issue. Noted because of the mention of a PV544.

"Kenyan rally great Joginder Singh – known as The Flying Sikh – has died at the age of 81.

Born in 1932, Singh was a three-times Safari Rally winner, the first time driving a Volvo PV544 in 1965 and then twice a decade later in a Mistubishi Lancer.

Singh was the son of a garage owner and immersed in cars and their mechanicals from a very early age. He set a series of firsts through his life, ranging from a being the Royal East African Automobile Association's first patrolman to being the first Sikh to win an international rally.

He came to motor sport relatively late in life, but still set an unchallengeable 19 finishes from 22 starts in the gruelling Safari."
