My '90 245 does this too. If I keep it over 2.5 RPM for more than 30 seconds or so it will idle at ~1200 RPM. I can't find the issue - flicking the ignition off then back on resets the computers and drops the idle back to normal. If you do it fast enough the engine won't cut off :)
